What We Believe About Work
Work is not a necessary evil to be endured until something better arrives. It is a calling, and for students who are just beginning to understand what they are capable of, it may be the most formative environment available to them.
Pilot Project exists to develop students to take their work seriously, not because achievement is the goal, but because how a person works reveals who a person is, how he thinks; about the God who made them, the neighbors they are called to serve. It is about what it means to do ordinary work with uncommon faithfulness, for the glory of God and the flourishing of others.
The student who shows up on time, prices their work fairly, serves their customer well, and manages their money with discipline is not merely building a business. They are building themselves. And the person they are becoming will matter long after the business does.
That formation happens through five core values we return to constantly: Truth, in how they represent themselves and their work; Beauty, in the standard they hold themselves to; Justice, in how they treat the people they serve; Stewardship, in what they do with what they have been given; and Dignity, their own, and the customer's they relate with.
This is the inheritance we are passing forward.
What Every Student Produces
Every student who completes Semester 1 will have produced four deliverables they can show to a parent, a prospective customer, or a future employer.
A written description of what they do, what it costs, and how they deliver it, in a format they could hand to a potential customer today.
A functional set of tools for scheduling jobs, communicating with customers, tracking income and expenses, and maintaining quality standards across every job.
A 10 to 15 minute verbal and written presentation to the cohort and parents, covering their service category, offer, pricing rationale, target customer, and first client acquisition plan.
A personal document answering: Who they are, What work they are drawn toward, Why it matters beyond income, and How they intend to carry themselves in it faithfully.
How It Works
Is This Program Right for Your Student?
Pilot Project is designed for families who believe formation happens through responsibility, and that a student who can define their offer, serve a customer well, and articulate why their work matters is better prepared for whatever comes next: college, trades, ministry, or enterprise.
Works best for students who are
This program is not for students looking for a light or passive elective, families seeking a purely academic business course, or students who are not ready to do real work in the real world. The program requires initiative, follow-through, and a willingness to be uncomfortable. That's the point.
